application we have opted to do a complete redesign of the entire airbox.The factory intake elbow reduces in size considerably from the plenum opening to the airbox.  Increasing the size or smoothing the inlet elbow has been the norm for most intakes with little to no effect in power.  The effect on airflow is minimal even if there is an increase in size after going through the restrictive and small area through the OEM airbox.Our design strategy was to create an inlet tube which kept the cross sectional area of the plenum opening consistent and enlarged it.  In order to accomplish this we needed to redesign the complete airbox to allow such a large tube to pass through it.The end result is a inlet tube which is significantly larger in volume and cross sectional area which slowly increases in size as it goes to the large surface area air filter.  The plenum can now take in air to it's maximum capacity as the cross sectional area remains the same and result.The test car was a 100% stock 2012 DCT with 62,000 miles.A healthy and genuine increase of  10-12hp | 8-10 lb.ft from 6000-8300rpmThe results shown are the highest stock result vs the highest result with the intake.  This can be clearly seen from the shape of the stock dyno run as it's shape is smooth and the power does not fall off at the high rpm.  The stock car makes it's peak power at the factory 8300rpm.  Many companies will use stock runs which are early runs in the session with high IAT's which result in the ECU retarding ignition timing.  This results in a graph which does not have a natural shape and flattens off at high rpm.  More importantly, the upgraded airbox dyno graph does not have a torque curve which has a consistent gain through the rpm range.  These types of dyno results suggest a correction factor has been used to show a false gain.  The test performed here shows a realistic result as the torque curve is almost identical at low rpm and only begins to gain power after 4000rpm and especially after 6000rpm where the air demand is higher.With modified cars with exhausts which delete the highly restrictive primary catalytic converters, the results will be similar or No gain expected in the midrange as the stock intake system flows enough in this region. After 4900rpm the power gain increases all the way to redline. It's important to point out that fabricated dyno graphs tend to show a similar dyno curve shape but just higher across the rpm range. Here we can see the two graphs are almost exactly the same from 2800-4900rpm and the gains are at the higher rpm where the stock system becomes a restriction. These are wheel horsepower results. located behind the grills and there is a second opening which opens into the engine bay against the wheel arch liner with it's own velocity stack protruding into the factory airbox. \u003cbr\u003eThis clearly suggests that one opening is not enough and the engineers had to create a separate opening to meet the high airflow demands of the engine which is understandable since the front intake has barely the same cross sectional area as the MAF.  The design is still however efficient as far as keeping the intake air temperatures low.  As far as being an ultimate performance intake, it is most certainly not with it's angular design, small volume and having an airflow with a directional path which is not direct.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor this application we have opted for a smooth one-piece expanding inlet tube with integrated MAF attaching directly to the inlet tubes with silicone couplers.  The expanding large volume inlet tube acts like a large velocity stack which accelerates the airflow and is much larger than the small and short velocity stack fitted to the internals of the OEM intake.  The result of the smoother airflow from our inlet tube is a far smoother lower rpm torque availability from the engine vastly improving drivability.  Throttle response is immediately felt to be smoother and more eager. The inlet tube is attached via a stainless steel v band clamp to the air filter housing which attaches directly to the oem front air feed and has a 100mm opening facing towards the front corners of the engine bay rather than facing downwards towards the wheel arch liner away from engine air feed extensions which are very different to the usual open style scoops.  This ensures the air is fully forced into the front air duct and not wasted by escaping where openings would exist and cause turbulence.     \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe result is a system which matches the factory intake system for inlet temperatures but has air forced into it from the front displacing any hot air that could accumulate inside of the air filter housing.  In addition the system changes the air flow characteristics for a smoother delivery and allows more air to enter the turbos more easily.At just 30mph and above, inlet temperatures are equal to ambient under normal cruising conditions.Under full load in 2nd and 3rd gear to 70mph intake temperatures rise only by 6 degC \/ 10degF in hot conditions (30degC \/ 86DegF C Ambient) and then level off to ambient temperatures there after.Above 70mph even under hard acceleration inlet temperatures remain at ambient which ensures maximum performance without the ECU compensating by reducing ignition timing, altering boost and adjusting fueling as in hot air open intake systems.This fully developed and intelligently designed intake system is not just something that looks good in the engine bay but does an impeccible job as an air smoothing device, increasing air available, increasing air speed into the turbo's, allowing the turbo's to spool faster, filters for longer more efficiently, keeps intake air temperatures low and making a sophisticated bellowing V8 intake noise under load.  Most important of all, it is the way with excellent gains below 3000rpm which can be attributed to the smooth elongated design of the intake tube which accelerates and smooths out the airflow.  This gain is very much apparent under real world driving conditions under both partial and full load with a much smoother power delivery.The next area where the expected majority of the improvements are seen are from 4750rpm to 7200rpm.  The intake being free flowing and having a reducing cross sectional area improves airflow and therefore power where the oem intake becomes restrictive.This is also translated under real world conditions with a harder surge to the red line.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBelow is a further set of results showing the other dyno runs with the stock intake and Infinity intake.The F10 M5 is very sensitive on the dyno and can produce results which vary.  Due to the S63TU engine being turbocharged, the charge temperatures can rise dramatically between runs.  The engine management system will apply it's compensation tables for increased charge, coolant and oil temperatures.  Companies, their dealers and sponsors take advantage of this and show the lowest stock runs vs the highest runs with a modification fitted in order to exaggerate the gains for marketing  and sales purposes.We are very much against showing these unrealistic gains as this is highly misleading.Below shows the results of multiple runs of the stock setup vs Infinity intakes fitted.  If the lowest stock runs were used in our official results then a gain of approximately 35-40 hp could be shown which is not realistic of any intake However, it does lack something and this is evident from just hearing the engine under normal driving and looking under the engine bay. The intake sound is mostly artificial being driven into the car by the speakers and it is very small with a series of Helmoltz resonators which quieten the induction sound.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere is also a distinct hesitation at the lower rpm’s (not the mild torque dip).Our aim was to vastly improve the intake with a full redesign to give faster throttle response, improved torque under both partial load and full load and most of all more induction sound. The Toyota GR86 is the least powerful car we have ever developed an intake system for but it’s been the most rewarding.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"section__title section__title--mb-s js-animate-single js-animation-done\" data-animation-displacement=\"5\"\u003e\n\u003ch2 class=\"section__title-text\"\u003eDevelopment Process\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"custom-content__item-text rte\"\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDuring the development process we created multiple prototypes.  The initial prototype used a straight venturi tube feeding into a large airbox which took it’s air from the stock OEM area with an enlarged area with an additional air feed on the opposite side which is very small.The idea was that the additional air feed would help in increasing available airflow.  However this design failed to give the desired results both on the dyno testing and on the road with no difference in power. Drivability was compromised with an additional torque dip in the higher midrange.  CFD analysis showed vast amounts of turbulence in front of the air filter.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn order to keep the airflow smooth and uniform the direct approach was taken with the same path with the single feed but with the following major changes: \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e1 – Double the cross sectional area of the front inlet feed giving more a more than adequate increase on available air for the FA24\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e2 – Extend the snorkel towards the front and incorporate a bell mouth to smooth the air flow\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e3 – use a significantly larger air filter housing and the largest possible venturi inlet tube.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAfter some iterations this method gave the best air flow under CFD analysis showing less turbulence than the OEM system with vastly increased airflow. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe results on both the dyno (see below) and road driving were excellent.  Vastly improved throttle response, low end torque response improvements with all of the hesitation now absent.  At mid-higher rpm heavy load driving a clear gain in performance noticed. Under normal but spirited driving the engine feels even more eager to accelerate in the 2000-4000rpm range required with more torque.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"section__title
